Rebecca Hall, Dry Point Intaglio
Maria Sibylla Merian has inspired many of our courses through the years: we have had classes on Butterflies, Dry Point Intaglio, Drawing on Tradition, etc. and she is mentioned each time we teach the history of Botanical Illustration. In connection to our Arts and Archives Tours we have studied Merian's original work at collections of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nürnberg, Germany (2012) and at the collections of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg (2013).Katherine Tyrrell has in an excellent way summarized Maria Sibylla Merian's life and works on her website. Highly recommended for every botanical illustrator!
